国産としては久々のオープンカー、ですがレクサスにはすでにSCがあります。あちらが4.3Lなのに対し、こちらは2.5Lとやや控えめ。それもあって、価格は495万円とSCより200万円以上も安く、BMW 335iより300万円以上も安いのです。<br />
ちなみにサイズはBMW 335iより少し大きく、下記のようになっています。<br />
IS250C：全長4635mm×全幅1795mm×全高1415mm<br />
335i：全長4590mm×全幅1780mm×全高1385mm<br />

乗ってみると、明らかにBMW 335iとはまるで方向性が違うということがわかります。また、SCとも異なります。335iほどスポーツカー的ではなく、とはいえSCよりはスポーティ。というか、クローズ時のドライバーズシートはISそのもの。試乗したのがまだおろしたてということもあり、段差を超えてもミシッともいわない強固なボディ剛性まで「ISらしい」と感じさせるものです。

素のIS自体、年を追うごとに硬めの乗り心地がしなやかになっています。とはいえそれはあくまでも、「トヨタ」イメージとは違う、芯のあるしなやかさ。ステアリングも素直で、ダルくもなくクイックすぎない。それがオープンカーでも（オープン時でも）まったく遜色なく味わえるのです。<br />
レクサスブランドが登場してはや4年近くたち、そのあたりの「レクサス味」が、少しずつ折り重なってしみこんで、固められつつあるように感じられます。<br /><br />
SCの4.3Ｌや335iの3Ｌツインターボと比べてしまうと、非力さの否めない2.5L直6エンジン。しかし、オープンにした時の開放感や、その際にオーディオから聞こえてくる音楽を感じながら走っていると、この車のポジションというかキャラクターづけがよく理解できます。これ以上、突っ走ってどーすんのよ？と。

レクサスといえばおもてなし。その辺は徹底されていて、クローズ時の静粛性、ルーフの開閉に同調して自動的に切り替えられるオートエアコン、前席シートに付いているスイッチを押せば電動で（パタンと倒れるのではなく電気仕掛けで）シートバックが倒れて、かつ前方へスライドする「ワンタッチパワーウォークインシート」などが備わります。<br />

IS Fがやんちゃな大人のスポーツセダンだとしたら、IS250Cはまだ枯れるには早いぜ的な大人のオープンカー。ビバリーヒルズ青春白書をリアルタイムで見て憧れていた人が、今これに乗ったら、ビバヒルのあの青空すら目に浮かぶことでしょう。<br />
だからこそ、シートも赤×白や青×白といった、ハデめなカラーリングが用意されています。子育てが終わってからの車ではなく、子育て中から積極的に乗ってほしい一台です。

<p>第5位はM・ベンツGクラス(現行)。芸能人御用達のGクラスは、正真正銘のロングセラーです。元々、軍用車として開発された車だけあって、悪路走破性は目を見張るものがあります。ただ街乗りでの走りは正直言って、古臭いです。大きなボディの割に、高い床のせいか車内は驚くほどコンパクトですし・・・。それでも人気があるのは、その普遍的なデザインゆえでしょう。シートポジションが高いので視界は広く、街中でも冒険心を掻き立ててくれます。</p>
<p>第4位は日産エクストレイル(旧型)。徹底的なマーケティングから生まれたエクストレイルは、SUVがもつ一般的な欠点をすべて克服した車です。ほどほどのボディサイズで、見切りを良くして、燃費を改善。ガンガンに使い倒せるように、荷室のフロアは洗えるようになっていますし、撥水加工を施したシートも装備。いやはや、本当に使えるSUVです。ただ、お買い得感の話をすれば、新車時価格からの値落ち率は低めかもしれません。人気だからしょうがないんですけどね。</p>
<p>第3位はトヨタハイラックスサーフ(現行)。旧型までは結構な人気があったのですが、現行モデルは滅多に見かけません。ランドクルーザープラドとエンジンは共有しているし、走りはガッチリしているし、文句のつけどころなし。ランドクルーザーに比べて高級感がないことが、さほど売れない原因かもしれません。しかし、“中身”を考えればかなりお得。都心で乗るにはボディサイズが大きく感じられるかもしれませんが、全長は5m以下。まったく問題ありませんよ。</p>
<p>第2位はVWトゥアレグ(現行)。トゥアレグはポルシェカイエン、アウディQ7などと兄弟車。同じプラットフォームを採用するばかりか、ポルシェとの共同開発となるスーパーSUVです。高速安定性は凄まじいです。予算が許すのであればW12エンジンを搭載したものをオススメしますが、V6エンジンでもまったく文句ありません。個人的にはパワフルなV8エンジン車を、200万円台後半で狙いたいところです。VWらしからぬ高級感が漂っていて、走りも上質そのもの。</p>
<p>第1位はフォードエクスプローラー(現行)。いい車なんですが、人気のほどはイマイチ。マイナーチェンジ前なら100万円強で狙えます。プラスチックの使い方が主因の安っぽさは、走りがカバーしています。強靭なフレームを生み出すためにあえてモノコックボディにせずラダーフレームを採用するところは、悪路での走りを考慮してのこと。それでいて、オンロードの走りも古臭くありません。アメ車から燃費の悪さを想像するのは、過去の話。いたってフツーで、文句ありません。</p>
